Selling Pictures for Stock?
Selling Pictures for Stock?

Thinking of selling pictures? Here's food for thought. I have submitted to Alamy since 2007, and have about 2000 pictures there. I have sold about a dozen in that time. The picture shown of a Green Woodpecker on an ant hill was taken in Chepstow park Wood in South Wales back way when. I was looking for Crossbills in my landy at the time. I got $12 Dollars for this effort. Bear in mind, that if I had sold this picture back in the days of slide film, with my old photo agency, Aquilla, I would have got at least £60, and that's after Allan Richards had his cut. It seams therefore in these modern digital times, you would have to many hundreds of thousands of pictures in Photo agencies to get a meaningful return. No wonder there are no professional Wildlife photographers who make a living just out of stock. The interesting thing about this picture however, I have sold this picture twice!
